How do you get crisp lines with masking tape?

Updated: Sep 20, 2024

There's nothing more satisfying than crisp, clean straight lines-so how do you do that then?

  1. Mark out the line with spirit level to make sure it’s straight

  2. Use a good quality tape designed for delicate surfaces to mark out the line

  3. Paint over the edge of the tape in the background colour. The colour that is under the tape. This means if there is any bleed it will be the colour that’s already on the walls and then there’s no room for the new colour to seep under.

  4. Leave to dry

  5. Apply the contrasting colour

  6. Unmask joyfully whilst recording a video to share with all your friends.

If you’re still not quite sure, then practice first on some lining paper–have a play around with it and see what you can do.

As I always say ‘it’s only paint!'
